In the news

Like a lot of people I like to know what's going on in the world around me for the most part. To do this, I read my local news paper and I search for news stories online. There are two that caught my attention today that I just can't help blogging about.

Lemonade Stand

If you click the link above you will find a story about some tween girls who needed money to go to a water park. Instead of asking their parents for money they decided to try to earn money for themselves by charging fifty cents for a cup of lemonade. They were shut down by the police chief for "breaking the law".

I understand that no one is above the law.

I recognize that their parents should have done the research to see if what their children were doing was legal.

Now let me say this: SERIOUSLY?!

They weren't causing anyone harm and they were kids trying to do things for themselves.

I wonder what happened in this country that we can let a murder walk free but shut down some little kids lemonade stand. 

Breast-feeding Baby Doll

The link above will take you to a video about a baby doll that simulates breast feeding. 

This doll is geared toward younger girls between the 9- 12 year old area.

It comes with a halter that have magnets that interact with the baby. 

When the baby is brought close enough to the magnets the doll will make a sucking noise.

I am undecided on what I think of this doll.

I DO think that it would be beneficial in breast-feeding classes or parenting classes.

I would NOT buy it for my four year old.

As I stated before, I am not sure how I feel about the doll being marketed as a toy but I do agree with a statement that was posted on facebook :

We make toy guns and other toys/video games that promote violence, dolls that are dressed like prostitutes, and parents who allow their children to listen to people like lady gaga and katy perry (speaking of prostitutes), who then become the kids role models. Knowing all that, I have a hard time having a problem with a toy that promotes providing a baby with nutrition, the way its been done since mammals existed.

 

I wouldn't go as far as calling the young performers prostitutes but most of her statement, I agree with.
