Valentine's Day...I lothe you.

Okay ladies, wait until the end to trash me.

There are a few different reasons why I dislike this holiday. For starters, why would you choose ONE day out of the year to show someone how much you love and care about them? Why not on some unexpected day bring home flowers or mop the floor or run a bath with rose petals and candles?  What makes this one day more important than the rest?

I believe that this day just causes problems in a relationship that would otherwise not exist. "You didn't get me flowers"..."You didn't cook me dinner"... "You didn't make the reservation". Blah, who needs it? I mean with actual problems going on, who needs the added stress of a greeting card holiday?

Some would say "Well this is the only day we can really make time for each other". Okay if you can make time on this day, why not another day? Why choose the day of expectations? Why not take a day and do something that is going to surprise and stun your partner? Why not give him/her a day that's all his/her own, one he's/she's not sharing with a million other people.

To bring me flowers on Valentine's day is like a slap in the face. It's like saying here now you're just like everyone else. I don't want to feel like everyone else. I want to feel special. I want to express the love I have with my boy on OUR day. I want to make a seemingly routine day bright and shiny and beautiful.

I am surely going to get torched for this but it's how I feel.
