DIY Carpet Powder

I know that I have been doing quite a few 'Do It Yourself' posts lately but I am just so addicted.

I have been making my own carpet powder for a while now and I have always left it unscented or used essential oils. Leaving it unscented didn't seem to make much sense & the oils worked okay but I could never really get it through the whole container. I started wracking my brain on what I could do to give it that 'homey' smell. Then it hit me. Spices. That's right, baking spices from my spice rack. I felt so slow for not thinking of this before. I am sure that I am not the first but I am still very excited about this discovery. Now before you all go thinking that I am putting garlic powder into my carpet powder, let me give you my concoction.

I use an old spaghetti cheese shaker that has been cleaned and dried out
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Borax*
1 Teaspoon Cloves
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Nutmeg

Put it all together and shake well. I adore the sent it gives the room. If you need it stronger, you can add more spices to the mix.

*Not everyone uses Borax in their carpet powder. I do because it helps fight fleas and I have animals so this is a much safer way to make sure they stay away than using sprays that contain chemicals that are harmful to children and pets.
