Prom and Graduation season is upon us.
For a lot of people it's a very happy, exciting time. For me it use to be a reminder in all the ways I have failed. I did not get to go to prom and I did not get to walk across the stage. There were no pretty dresses, limos or celebrations in my honor.
I still get a little sad when I think about the day that I was suppose to graduate. Watching my friends walk across the stage with out me was one of the most painful times of my teenage life.
Prom was also painful for me. When all my friends were getting their hair and nails done and putting on pretty dresses and suits, I was putting on an apron and serving pizza and soda to drunk people.
Around this time of year I start to reflect on the choices in my life and wonder how different things would be if I would have tried a little harder or attended more classes. It's not like I couldn't do the work. I am actually quite intelligent and a fairly quick learner learner. I was just reckless, lazy and self absorbed.
I can't go to college because I have no GPA or SAT scores. I don't even have the copy of my GED to get me in. I believe that these are the reasons that a 9 year old mistake still haunts me. Dispite these minor set backs I think that life is going fairly well for me. I am not an engineer for the air force nor do I work in a hoity toity office building as I once thought I might. I can say thought that I am happy. Truly happy.
As a drop-out, I would like to congratulate those of you who put forth the effort and succeed in completing your high school career. Your future does matter but I also want to tell you that things rarely turn out as planed. Do well in school or your job but also remember that life is good and fun if you don't put so much pressure on your self. Go to that Friday night party. Your homework will still be there Saturday waiting to be done. Play pranks on your friends and stay up late laughing. These things are also important to not only your future but to the life you are currently live.
Congratulations Graduates Of 2011
