I have 2 full time roommates and 1 part time roommate. We all laugh together and have a good time. The problem lies when not everyone wants to pull their weight in house work. I know that I am the only one in the house that doesn't have a paying job but that doesn't make me anyone's slave.Or so I thought.
Jeremy even helps me and he works. All the repairs around the house are done by he and Justin.
I thought that it was common sense if the toilet is dirty to clean it, if the light bulbs are blown to replace them. dusting should be done at least once a week and to take out the trash when it's full. Apparently I was mistaken.
"I don't want to misplace anything, that's why I
don't help out around the house."
"I don't know where things go and I don't want to bother you."
"I never know what needs to be done so I can't help."
Those were all excuses that I got when I asked why I have to do everything around here. As I said, I am a stay at home mother. I didn't realize that it meant I was everyone's mother. I sometimes wonder what the parents of my roommates would think if I told them how lazy their kids are.
I have gotten the advice that Jeremy, Kaylee and I should just move on our own but we are a family. We won't just break up a family or put out the people you call your friends because you have disagreements. It's a part of life. I would MUCH rather fail at fixing things then make people leave my home.
The advice that I am seeking is how do I make grown people be adults and clean up after themselves and sleep in their room instead in the living room. That way when I want to run the vacuum and play my music before noon, I can, I can't cause them bodily harm (though I threaten to often). I have tried talking, putting lists on the fridge and yelling. I even stopped cooking for an entire week because the dishes weren't being done. It made no difference. No one else even attempted to cook.
Someone help me so I don't go gray before I am 26.
