Sometimes, it's okay to be a quitter.

At midnight it'll be five years since I last smoked a cigarette.

I started smoking at a very young age.
Most are shocked when I tell them how young I was.
Needless to say, I spent 13 years doing by the time I quit.

It was a spur of the moment decision.
I did it 'cold turkey'.
No pills, gum, patches or classes.
Just me and the support of my friends, my mom and my Aunt Bert.
Despite living in a house where EVERYONE smoked
I quit.

It wasn't easy.
I was moody, sick and sometimes just plain mean.
It would have been so easy to just continue smoking.
However, I was going through a really bad heartbreak and it seemed like my life was out of control so I needed to do something that I could control.
I need a positive LIFE change.
I took a lot of walks and baked almost constantly.
I spent a good bit of time alone so that I wouldn't make my supporters hate me. =)
It's been said he first 2 weeks are the hardest.
For me it took almost 3 months before I stopped having daily cravings.
When I realized that my hair smelled good, my fingers weren't yellow and my food tasted better it became a lot easier.

Five years later, I am still smoke free.
I am happier.
Healthier.
I still get the urge to smoke every once in a while but it passes quickly.

If you are a smoker, I urge you to quit.
